Summary of Results
Summary of Results of a report highlighting the effectiveness of the My-Language learning program over a period of 90 days to a total of fifteen schools.
The schools represent ten different LEAs, at both Primary and Secondary levels.
Although commissioned by My-Language, the Report is an independent assessment.
The following represents the findings:
Main Findings: - Gains in French, German and Spanish (languages tested) made by all pupils using the My-Language program:
- The pre- and post-pilot testing shows that there are positive learning gains in all schools. These gains are in addition to expectations based on results of the control group.
- Analysis by National Curriculum year groups of all schools shows positive learning gains on average.
- Analysis by ability grouping for all pupils taking part in the pilot shows that the pupils in the test groups do better than their counterparts in the control. The very able make even more significant gains than their counterparts in the control groups.
Pupils' Attitudes: - Pupils are very motivated when using the system and find it easy to use.
- Pupils remain motivated when they return to their normal classwork.
- Attitudes to learning, in particular to languages, appear to have become very positive.
- Pupils' self-confidence improves as the fear of failure is removed by the My-Language program.
Teachers' Attitudes: - Class teachers commented that pupils' attitudes and ability to concentrate had improved significantly.
- Class teachers have more quality time to identify weaknesses and to work with individuals and groups.
Conclusion: The My-Language program shows positive learning gains in foreign language acquisition in a short period of time.
